Organization

Midwest karate Club Inc., located at Seaway Mall in Welland, is a member owned and operated not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching the principles of Traditional JKA Shotokan Karate.

The fundamental purpose of the Club is to preserve the underlying principles of this highly esteemed Japanese martial art. Traditional Karate, as a martial art brings significant benefit to the participant. It helps to improve self-confidence, self-esteem with obvious physical fitness benefits. Parents report with significant duplication the improvement of their child's interpersonal communication skills, task focus and improved sibling relations and school performance. While it is difficult to empirically measure, these benefits are continually reported by parents who have enrolled their children in Traditional Karate under the tutelage provided through Midwest Karate.

The focus of the training is the development of the individual - an understanding of self-defense as avoidance of danger as opposed to the physical confrontation of danger. This concept is somewhat foreign to Western culture underscoring the benefit of eastern philosophy associated with Traditional Karate. While Hollywood has glorified the physical prowess of the martial artist, in reality, the Japanese martial art of Traditional Karate is steeped in culture and tradition with a focus of developing the individual participant to his/her maximum potential - both physically and mentally.
