Club Focus

The focus of the martial art is individual development. As a result, training in Traditional Karate is a very personal experience. It is a skill development and growth experience that can be a lifetime study. Because it is focused on the development of the individual's potential, there are no limits to learning and no finite points to achievement. There is always something new to learn and another aspect to improve. Consequently, the individual can continue to train and improve over the course of their entire lifetime.

For the child, Traditional Karate training improves task performance, concentration and self-confidence. For the haggard adult, Traditional Karate is excellent for stress release, as it requires full concentration of the individual for the time of training.

The Club's Technical Director, Mr. Jorgensen, has been involved in presenting to school groups, and teaching self-defense awareness programs as part of physical education classes. Mr. Jorgensen introduced a credit program as part of the Physical Activities degree program at the University of Regina.

This program allows university students involved in the Departments of Education and Physical Activity Studies to take Traditional Karate as an elective and earn a credit toward their degree. Mr. Jorgensen developed the program and the evaluation criteria used by the University.

Midwest Karate Club is hopeful that we will be able to offer this type of programming to the schools and colleges in the Welland area, provided we are able to maintain the Club's development.
